Small business loan to diversify farm
Reported on Thu, 26 Jan 2006
A family farm believes it will make a significant profit once its latest diversification venture is up and running.
Later this month, Robin and Jeanette Mitchell, owners of the Gweryd Lakes farm and coarse fishery in North Wales, will open their new Hideaways Cafe, reports the Daily Post.
As well as providing speciality Dutch pancakes the cafe will sell a selection of lamb products from the farm's sheep herd.
The couple bought the 150-acre holding in 1995 and originally intended to open a mountain bike centre, but the three fishing lakes received a lot of interest so they decided to open them to the public.
To feed the anglers they started selling lamb burgers from their own flock. This was very successful and led to the idea for the cafe.
Mr Mitchell said: "Our original mission statement was to show that a small farm could be sustainable through adding value to our products and by diversifying into leisure."
Taking out a small business loan will allow your farm or company to be able to diversify into other market sectors.
